A Rose Of Ebony: Chapter2-A Friend's Requiem
A Friend's Requiem
The Bladebreakers and the Femme Fatales were behaving as if they were long-time companions, or in some cases, lovers...Kenny and Azula situated themselves by the Information Center, engaging in more than "casual conversation." While they played games on the laptop, they gave each other more information about themselves. The fun almost came to an end when Kenny asked a most upsetting question, "Have you ever been involved in a relationship before?" The smile on Azula's face disappeared and a solemn, gloomy expression replaced it. " No, I-I-I---I've never even been looked at THAT way by a boy...well, what can I say? I guess I'm not...." Her voice broke off and tears welled up in her cerulean eyes.
Kenny felt cold and ashamed. Even though he was a very intellectual boy, he didn't have the slightest clue about how to deal with a crying girl! He watched as Azula silently sobbed and a single crystalline tear gently caressed her cheek. She lowered her head so that her oceanic hair covered her vunerable countenance. "Psst! Hey Chief! Psst!" Dizzi hissed lowly. Kenny snapped out of his hypnotic trance and wildly wheeled around toward his laptop. "What do you want Dizzi?! I'm kind of in the middle of a crisis here!" he shouted. "Well, sheesh! Excuse me for being!" she exclaimed. "All I was trying to tell you was that you should try and cheer her up!" Kenny glanced back over at Azula, she now had her back to him, hunched over with her shoulders shaking. Kenny turned back to his PC and said, "I don't know how!"
Dizzi scoffed, "If I had hands I'd slap you! Just comfort her and tell her it's ok! C'mon you can do it Chief!" Nervously Kenny placed his hand on Azula's shoulder and gingerly rubbed it. Azula shivered and looked up at him dolefully. "Hey I'm sorry. Please, it's ok..." as these words left Kenny's mouth, Azula placed her head on his shoulder and softly sobbed. Kenny looked to his laptop, but Dizzi was silent, so he had to take matters into his own hands. "Those guys at your school...they're idiots," he said. Kenny could feel her smile even though her face was buried in his shoulder. Azula lifted her head and laughed . Kenny gazed at her face, her eyes glowed radiantly and her cheeks turned pink. They returned to their original conversation, closer than before....
Meanwhile, on the dance floor....
Rouge, Ivy, Tyson, and Rei tumbled to the floor in exhaustion, gasping for air. The only two remaining were Max and Stormy. They all had been bouncing along to three upbeat songs before the others collapsed. "How can they do that?!" exclaimed Rouge. "Do what?" asked Rei as he struggled to his feet. Rouge nodded toward Max and Stormy, who were still hopping about. While the others staggered over to the "bar", Stormy and Max became sillier and sillier. They hopped to about six more songs, before Max bumped into her and made her fall down. Stormy just layed there and laughed. Max helped her to her feet and stared at her. Stormy went to say something, but he hushed her. Slowly, Max leaned closely and sweetly, Stormy held her breath as he leaned in and...pushed her nose as if it were a button and said, "BUTTON!!!!" Stormy completely lost it! She couldn't speak, stand, nor see straight. Max had to help her to the "bar" with the others.
Rouge had gotten up to fix her skirt and Tyson accidentally stepped on her toe. She let out such a loud shriek, you'd think she was being attacked. Before you knew it, Rouge exploded in Tyson's face, giving him nore than a piece of her mind. Tyson became angry and began to yell back at her. Rouge was surprised that ANYONE had the gall to yell at her, especially a greenhorn like Tyson, so she gave him her full volume. Tyson contradicted her by also using his loudest voice. The contest wreaked havoc on everyone else's so much that people started to leave. The "bartender" had constantly warned them to stop, but unable to out-shout the two banshees, he gave up. It looked as if the battle would never end, until it came down to one monotone note. Now, it could be anyone's victory! Rouge and Tyson both kept their note considerably long. "The both of are either gonna rip out their tonsils themselves or I'll do it myself!" Raven thought as she watched them both turn blue in the face. Suddenly, Tyson's voice was no more than a struggling whisper. He had lost to Rouge! The worst possible thing you could do was lose to Rouge because she would never let you live it down no matter what!!!
Solemnly, Tyson sat down next to Rei and Ivy and sighed. "I can't believe I lost....especially to HER!!" he mumbled. Rei and Ivy laughed. "It's actually really ironic, Tyson!" Ivy said thoughtfully. Tyson glared at her and asked hoarsely, "Oh yeah! How so?" Rei shook his head and answered for her, "You were just beaten by a female version of yourself!" Rei and Ivy started laughing hysterically as he sat their brooding. Tyson murmured an insult or two under his breath and turned away. After the laughter subsided, Rei and Ivy looked around at everyone and smiled. "It's really nice how everyone is getting along!" she said happily. Rei looked around too and smiled. "Yeah, well in their own little ways of course!" Ivy looked sideways towards Raven and Kai. They were sitting at opposite ends of each other and didn't realize each other's existence in the process. "Well, everyone except for those two..." Ivy sighed and shook her head. "Don't worry about it! Kai's always like that....it's not that he doesn't like you guys or anything!" Rei replied. Again, Ivy shook her head and said, "Raven's like that too, and I'm afraid that she'll NEVER meet another guy!" Instantly, they both looked at each other in an "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" way and then glanced at Kai, and then at Raven. They nodded, for soon there plan would go underway.....
Raven was still situated in her lonely, dark corner, away from everyone else...that's the way she liked it. She didn't care that everyone else was having fun and making new friends, she just didn't see the purpose of it all. She peered over at the gang and thought to herself, Maybe I should go over and have some fun too... She stopped herself. "No..." she told herself. "I chose to be like this and there's no turning back now. I will stay this way, until HE returns to me..." It pained her so to think of him, and it hurt her even more when she heard his name, so even the hushed whispered word of his name was forbidden. A small, crystalline tear gently slid down her pale, forlorn cheek. She wiped it away in surprise, she was too tough and strong to break into tears, now. She quickly regained her repose and contnued drinking her soda pop.
A sudden tap on her shoulder startled her, for she thought that someone had seen her cry. She pReied to whoever would listen that it wasn't one of the Bladebreakers. She quickly turned around, "Phew! You scared for a second there, Ivy. I thought you were someone else..." she laughed it off as if it was nothing at all. Ivy sat down beside her and glanced over at Rei, giving him the signal to start the pep talk with Kai. "What are you staring at?" Raven asked curiously. Ivy giggled mischieviously and pointed at Kai. "So, what do you think? Isn't he gorgeous?" she asked nonchalantly. Raven looked over at Kai and grinned. "Yeah he's a hottie! You really know how to pick 'em out, don't ya?" They both laughed loudly. Raven looked over at him again and simply stated, "Muscles!" They both laughed again. Ivy glanced at Raven and asked, "So, what do you like about him?" Raven thought for moment before she answered. "He's mysterious, quiet, and dark-like, like me.....hey, wait a minute, are you trying to set me up with him or something?" She eyed Ivy suspiciously. Ivy just silently looked down. Raven sighed and returned to her drink.
Meanwhile, Rei was trying to convince Kai to go talk to Raven. Rei looked over at Raven and smiled. Kai noticed that he suddenly became silent and turned toward him. "Wha...?" Before Kai completely ask the question, Rei turned his head toward Raven and Ivy. "Cute, huh?" Rei asked. Kai looked between the two girls confusedly. "Which one?" he asked stupidly. Rei shook his head and laughed. "Raven....she's awesome!" Kai stared at Raven. "Yeah..." he sighed. Rei waved his hand in front of Kai's face. "Uh-oh! I think someone's got a crush on Raven!" Rei said in a sing-song voice. Still, no response came from Kai, who was studying Raven's every movement. "Psst! Why don't you go over and talk to her?" Rei whispered to him. Kai quickly shook his head. "Naw, I'd choke, or trip, or say something wrong..." He glanced back over at her and sighed. "Besides, she's probably scared of me..." Rei pushed Kai off of his seat and said, "Only one way to find out!" Kai walked a little towards her and then looked back at Rei...
While Kai slowly made his way over, Ivy was still trying to convince Raven to go out with Kai. "Just for one night, Raven!" Raven slammed down her cup. "No! The only way I would go out with him is if he comes over to me, by himself, and I get to know him better! We both know that he's probably scared of me, or is attracted to Rouge or something!" she laughed and all in one, swift movement turned around, crossed her legs, and flicked her hair. "Besides, why would he like me?" Just as these words left her mouth, a nervous, but familiar voice spoke, "Uh...is THIS seat taken?" Kai asked. Raven just stared, open-mouthed. It took her a few seconds for her brain to process what was going on. Ivy elbowed her harshly. "Ouch! I mean....no its been empty for as long as I can remember..." She returned to her original mood. Kai slowly sat down beside her, as if he was afraid that she was going to kill him at any moment. She laughed and Kai froze in place.She looked at him and laughed again. Kai had about all he could take. He was about to leave when Raven said, " You don't have to be scared of me. I'm not going to bite you, I promise!" She laughed again as Kai turned away and began to walk towards Rei. "Ugh! Insecurity is such a turn-off!" Raven scoffed as she turned back to her drink. Too bad, she thought, I thought he was pretty cute...
