“Yamagota!!” Keneda woke up screaming. He panted and looked around. He was safe. He was still at home in his bed with Kei next to him. “Keneda?” She asked sleepily, “What’s happening?” “Nothing go back to sleep.” There were some things you couldn’t tell your wife. It had been three years. Three years since that awful day. The day Tetsuo had killed Yama. Three years since Tetsou himself had died. The Great Tokyo Empire that Tetsuo had started was working. Kaisuke and the others mostly ran it now. Sure none of the other countries really took them seriously but Keneda didn’t care. He had his bike and his apartment and Kei was pregnant. She wanted a girl to name Chiyoko but Keneda hoped it was a boy. A boy named Tetsuo. “Tetsou.” Keneda muttered as he rose to take a piss. “Where are you now?” He remembered that day so well. The day Tetsuo killed Yama. They, Keneda, Yamagota, Kaisuke and a bunch of others, had been chasing Tetsuo and the clowns. Yamagota and the others had Tetsuo cornered. Tetsuo had used his power to get rid of them. Then Tetsuo had Yamagota cornered and then he, Keneda, had come and Yamagota told him to shot Tetsuo and he couldn’t do it. Then Tetsuo used his powers to make stuff fall on him and Keneda dropped the gun. Then Yamagota had the gun and he tried to shot Tetsuo and then… and then. Keneda couldn’t bear to think of it. What was it he had said just before the meeting where they had planed to kill Tetsuo? “Yes damn it! It’s a matter of honor! No bikers worth a shit let a bunch of junkies kick their asses!” “Honor!” Keneda thought angrily, “This is all my F***ing honor got me. My two best friends both DEAD! Shit. That’s all we are, a bunch of junkies who are worth a shit. Just a shit.” Tetsuo had killed Yama with the power, the power that killed him. Yama’s death had fill Keneda with grief and most of all anger. Anger at Tetsuo. He’d wanted nothing but to kill Tetsuo. “And I never got to.” He thought ruefully zipping up his fly. Keneda remembered the day that Tetsuo died too. He’d been… what did Miyako call it? Consumed with his power? His body had been a vessel that the power wished to escape or something like that. “Were you sorry when you died, Tetsuo?” Keneda asked softly. “Yes.” Keneda looked around. He could swear that sounded just like…. “Tet-Tetsuo?” He asked. “It’s me.” Tetsuo was there. Except that wasn’t Tetsuo. Tetsuo was dead. Gone. Yet there was Tetsuo. White, looking like he was burning. “Are…are you a ghost?” Keneda asked. “You could call it that. I am sorry for what I did.” “Why, Tetsuo?” “Why what?” “Why did you kill Yama?” “My head hurt.” “That’s no reason to kill someone!” Keneda yelled. “Heh.” Tetsuo laugh mirthlessly, “You don’t under stand. Back then when my head hurt or I got really angry I’d do crazy things. I couldn’t control my power at all. I was crazy half the time. He tried to kill me too you know.” “I know.” “It doesn’t matter now anyway. Keneda, I saw him.” “You saw Yamagota?!” “Right after I died he was one of the first people I saw.” “After… you died?” “When I died it was like I was still alive just not in the world any more. I can’t really describe it.” “Like heaven?” “No biker punks like us wouldn’t go to heaven! It’s like all the people you’ve lost are there with you and it doesn’t matter who killed who because we’re all there and can do what we want. Except you Keneda. You and Kaisuke.” “Whose there?” “A bunch of people. Miyako, those little kids, Yamagota, the guys in our gang who were killed in the explosion and Kaori.” “Kaori? Wasn’t she…your girlfriend or something?” “I gauss so. She was probably the only one who actually cared for me in that place.” “Didn’t you have followers?” “Akira had followers. They just wanted my power for there own gain. They were always asking me to do crap. “Master Tetsuo heals me!” Master Tetsuo we need your power!” Shit like that. Kaori never asked for anything.” “Did…Did you consume her. Like you did me?” “No.” Tetsuo looked angry, “They killed her! Those bastards killed her.” “You said it didn’t matter who killed who.” “That not the point!” Tetsuo yelled, “She died because of ME! They were going to try and kill me but she ran to warn me and they shot her! I killed them later. That’s the one thing I’m not sorry for.” “Tetsuo.” Keneda whispered softly. “Don’t pity me.” Tetsuo said, “I always hated being pitied.” “Oh f*** off.” Keneda said. “What’s happening here anyway?” Tetsuo asked, “You actually made something out of this Great Tokyo Empire. I’m impressed.” “Yeah, it was mostly Kaisuke who did it. Kei’s pregnant.” “Yeah right. Like she’d ever let a loser like you f*** her.” “Tetsuo why’d this have to happen? Why did you and Yama have to die?” “It’s like Miyako said. We each have destinies. If I hadn’t have got the power and died you would have never met Kei and that kid wouldn’t be born.” “Tetsuo.” “Keneda, I have to go. Tell me something. After I died what happened to those drugs? The ones that the colonel gave me.” “They were destroyed.” “Good. That power’s too big. See ya! Keneda.” “Good bye Tetsuo.” Tetsuo was gone and Keneda was going back…to bed at least. |
