The Face of Ryu Kashu

The Face of Ryu Kashu

“Ready, big brother?”

“Ready. You ready, Sanosuke?”

“As ready as I’ll ever be. Could’ve used some more sleep though.” As they walked from the room towards the balcony on the second floor, they could hear the remaining members of the Oni Waban group getting louder and louder. When they appeared on the balcony, the crowd erupted. Nobody could hear anything except the cheering and applause from them. When they finally quieted down, Yoko began to speak.

“As all of you know, Kashu has tried to take over the government here. And when we tried to stop him, he turned against us. He has captured and killed many of us. He has terrorized civilians. Well he will oppress us no longer. Thanks to the help of these two men, Kenshin Himora and Sanosuke, we will defeat Kashu, and stop his reign of terror on the people of Osaka!” The whole street was in an uproar, when one cold voice stopped them all.

“A touching speech, Yoko.”

“It’s Kashu!” said one of the Oni Waban. It was the only time that he had showed his face to anyone there. Even some of his own men had never seen him before. He had a scar on his face in the shape of a skull. It was a sign, that whenever someone saw him it meant death for them. He started to speak again.

“You are truly a courageous woman. After you and your precious group’s death, you will be remembered by all long after this,” he said. “It’s a shame we couldn’t see eye to eye on this. But as you know I must destroy any and everyone who stands in my way.”

“Not this time,” Yoko replied. “This time you’ll be stopped once and for all. You won’t put fear in the lives of anyone anymore, and you won’t take away anymore lives either.”

“We’ll see,” he said. He blew a whistle and a whole legion of his men was attacking the Oni Waban group immediately. However, they were no match for the combination of the Oni Waban’s skill and determination. They wouldn’t let themselves be defeated again. The help of the Batosai and Sanosuke didn’t hurt either. It soon became obvious that they had the advantage, so Kashu fled with Hiroyuki alongside him.

“Look Sano, they’re getting away,” said Kenshin.

“Should we go after them?” he asked.

“Go ahead, we have this covered,” said Yoko. “Besides, if he escapes he can gather more men and attack us again. Now hurry before he does.”

As Kenshin and Sanosuke chased after them, Kashu and Hiroyuki split up and ran in different directions.

“Kenshin, I’ll take care of Hiroyuki,” said Sanosuke. “You go after Kashu. And make sure you beat him good for me.”

“Yes, I will.”

Sanosuke soon caught up to Hiroyuki and knocked him out. Kenshin took longer to catch up with Kashu. When he did, Kashu suddenly stopped.

“I can see that this won’t be determined by our speed,” he panted. “But by our skills with the sword.” When he said this he pulled out his sword, which glowed from the moonlight.

“I won’t allow you to continue killing people, that I won’t,” said Kenshin. Then he pulled out his reverse-blade sword. Then the fight began. At first it seemed that they were evenly matched, but then Kashu seemed to get faster and stronger. After Kenshin barely dodged an attack, Kashu knocked him ten feet with just one punch.

“I can’t beat him if I continue to fight like this,” he thought to himself. “I have no choice but to try the final attack if I want to defeat him. Here goes.”

Then Kenshin ran towards Kashu. “Hiten Mitsurugi style Final Attack!” he yelled. But it looked like Kashu had blocked it.

“It will take more than that to beat me,” he said, gasping for breath.

“I don’t think it will,” replied Kenshin. He got up, went over to Kashu, blew out a puff of air, and Kashu fell down unconscious.

“No more will anyone be afraid of the name Ryu Kashu.” Kenshin dragged him along as he went to turn him in to the police. After that he went back to where the fight had begun, but it had ended long before that.

“What has happened to Kashu?” asked Yoko.

“He won’t be attacking anyone anymore.” As Kenshin spoke the sun came up, and Sanosuke came up the road.

“Well I took care of that little toad,” he said. “Guess we have to be going now?”

“Yes,” said Kenshin. “We should leave right away. I guess this is goodbye, Yoko. We’ll have to do this again sometime.” Then he and Sanosuke began walking back on the way home.

“Kenshin! Kenshin!” yelled Yoko. Kenshin stopped and turned around.

“Yes? What is it?” he asked.

“Thanks for your help, big brother.”

Kenshin smiled, and turned back on his way home with Sanosuke.

“You’re welcome, sis,” he said to himself.
