“Lt. Noin, there’s a large spacecraft approaching fast!” Broken from their usual lazy afternoons, everyone at the space station dislodged their eyes from their respective computer monitors—even Heero—got up, and bolted to the radar monitors. “What is it?” “Holy hell, it’s HUGE!” “But where do you think it came from?” “Yeah, I’ve never seen that kind of design in Earth crafts before,” “MY GOD, ALIENS!!!” Suddenly the station was filled with a myriad of voices. Everyone was shouting excitedly, looking at one another and stabbing their fingers at the red dot that blinks in and out in the radar. They have never encountered this kind of vessel before, and many of them—mostly those who are not accustomed to fighting—are anxious of this mysterious visitor. “Everyone, calm down!” barked Noin. “Just because they’re different it doesn’t mean that they’re hostile. But perhaps… we should standby all units along with the Gundams as a precaution.” She turned to the operator. “Check if we can establish some sort of communication with them. If they’re willing to talk, the chances that they’re here to fight are minimal,” “Uh, miss Noin!” alerted one of the crew. “There’s a coded message that’s being transmitted from that craft. I believe they’re capable of audio and visual contact.” “Very good. To the main monitor, please.” nodded the raven-haired Lieutenant. Everyone watched anxiously as the looming monitors went static, still adjusting to the frequencies the two spacecrafts exchanged. From the looks of everyone’s faces, it is clear that not all of them agree that these strangers are friendly: everyone had different emotions upon this matter. The atmosphere around them swelled with conflicting and interlacing thoughts, it was almost palpable. The monitor gave the first faint glimpses of the speaker on the other end. Noin pursed her lips and knitted her eyebrows in anticipation of what’s about to come. Some of them eagerly wait the inevitable clashing of machines and skills, while some were totally indifferent to it. Others were just glad that the monotony of their everyday existence just got an exciting twist, while some of them, though not many, were scared as hell by the thought that these creatures might be more powerful than the Gundams could crush them into death. As they waited breathlessly for the broadcast to start, the monitor flickered and cleared to slowly reveal a middle-aged woman with light-chocolate skin and long, silver hair present at the end of the spacecraft. “Whoo, a babe!” breathed Duo. “Greetings, stranger,” Noin began. “What brings you to—“ “We come with a warning, earthlings,” the woman interrupted in her rich, low voice. The small green jewel positioned on her forehead glinted as her voice quavered the air. “Gasp! Aliens…” Relena squeaked. Her suspicions were true. The manner in which they came so abruptly, unannounced, their superior attitude, how they called us earthlings… it can’t be true… it musn’t! However, no matter how hard she tried to convince herself that it cannot be true, all of these things fit together so perfectly together to form dread in her mind. She sank slowly, and began to drift away from the monitor which confirmed her nightmare. “We travel the universe in search of a fearful enemy,” declared the woman. “We want to obliterate this enemy which seeks to destroy the human race.” Clearly, she was a woman of high stature—like a queen, or an empress. But the crispness of her voice and the hardness of her gaze betray that comparison. She was more like a general, one with a no-nonsense air about her which told everyone that she meant business. Realizing this, Wu Fei began to admire this leader with an unearthly beauty. He longed for the day when their swords would meet. “this enemy that you speak of,” said Noin. “Do you know where exactly they came from?” “Yes.” nodded the woman. “They came from Earth.” That particular remark caused several gasps and a few shouts of outrage. Heero (who went back to his pc a few moments when the woman spoke) closed his pc and purposefully walked out towards the hangar. “Wait, Heero,” said Noin, calm as ever. “Let’s not be rash. Let us hear their explanations first.” Heero grunted but did what he’s told. Noin turned back to look at the stern face on the monitor. “What do you mean ‘from Earth’? Are you saying that we are your enemy?” “The enemy from Earth I spoke of is different from you. They are not humans anymore, and they travel the universe to different galaxies and planets, destroying those who oppose their sadistic and narrow-minded ways.” she paused. “We understand that you have been protecting the very same enemy that we fight against, but I also believe that you people did not even understand that Earth have been massacring her own people. If you wish to defend you homeland, we have no choice but to obliterate you as well. It is for the safety and integrity of the universe.” Noin definitely looked confused. In all her years in dealing with the conspiracies and underground dealings within Earth, never had she encountered an operation as colossal as this. “Planets? Galaxies? Wait, I don’t understand… we didn’t know that Earth had technology that advanced. Where exactly do you people come from, anyway?” she asked intently. For a few moments that lasted for a lifetime, it seemed, everything in the universe fell completely silent. The only sounds that can be heard are the soft purring of the machines that continued to compute and decode restlessly. The woman closed her eyes for a second and slowly lifted her head. “Mejer,” was all she said. [To be continued…] |
