Posts: 1 Score: 13 Rank: 91 | The story centers on the life of Hideki Motosuwa, a repeat student (浪人, Rōnin?) attempting to qualify for university by studying at the Seki prep school in Tokyo. Besides a girlfriend, the other thing he dreams of having is a Persocom. A Persocom is an android used as a personal computer; however, they are expensive, and Hideki has no money.
On his way home one evening, he stumbles across a Persocom in the form of a beautiful girl with long blonde hair lying against a pile of trash bags. He first thinks this to be a murder but, realizing she was a Persocom, he carries her home. Upon turning it on, she instantly regards Hideki with adoration. The only word she seems capable of saying is "chi", and thus he names her Chi. Although Chi does not appear to have any programs installed in her, Hideki's friends surmise that she must have some sort of learning program installed, judging from her behaviour.
A major part of the plot involves Hideki attempting to teach Chi words, concepts, and appropriate behaviours, in between cram school and work. At the same time, Chi seems to be developing feelings for Hideki, at an emotional depth, which Persocoms are not supposed to possess, and Hideki struggles with his feelings for her. The series explores the nature of Persocoms, human interactions with them, and the nature of love. All sorts of characters and their Persocoms are introduced, some of them loving Persocoms, and some of them considering them only as tools, and some of them hating them altogether.
In the later part of the story, the characters start to explore Chi's mysterious past. Chi discovers a series of picture books of mysterious origin, that seem to awaken something deep inside of her. The book inspires her to find the "person just for me", a euphemism used in the series to refer to one's true love. Chi is also a very special Persocom, and towards the end of the story, together with Hideki, discovers her true identity, as well as what lies within her.

I mainly wanted to add that this anime series is indeed one of my favorites! I fell in love with Chi immediately, she is adorable! The only disappontment was the fact that, although she did learn quite a bit throughout the show, I was hoping she would mature somewhat, but I suppose that was sort of the part of the doe-eyed beauty. In any case, the art is very appealing and the characters Kotoko and Sumomo are pretty entertaining as well. | Contributions: Reviews: 1 |

Posts: 0 Score: 1 Rank: 1013 | Chobits, overall was an excellent series. The characters actually had relationships that developed, which is rare in anime. The story flowed fairly well, and did not bore the audience to death. The writers knew who would be their target audience would be, and definetly drove to please that audience. The voice acting in the english version was done wonderfully, and the voices fit the characters extrememly well.
This series was created so well, it is difficult to say that it is flawless, but it would be a lie to say it wasn't. The show could have definetly be cut down some; for example, episodes repeat what happened in the last episode too much instead of moving on in the story. The ending was predictable, making it almost dislikable; some things never really were resolve;and even though the characters moved on with relationships, at the very end, it seems like the begining is just repeated.
Despite Chobit's flaws, it is still a wonderful series. Any viewer will have no trouble looking past the bad points, which there are few, and will fall in love with this series charm and interesting view on love. |

Posts: 3 Score: 1 Rank: 943 | | One of the best romantic/comedy anime series that has made a big impact is Chobits. The story of a man named Hideki who finds the fallen and abandoned persocom named Chi. For those who do not know what a persocom is, it is a robotic companion made to look and act like a human. (All of them have little ears that differ them from the humans) The first couple of episodes really bring out the comedy in this anime. As the story progresses, the drama and romance begin to unravel into a perfect synchronized story with events that will leave its viewers wanting more. This anime is targeted more for the female audience, but can also be enjoyed by the male audience in which it was intially intended for. (Which is another story....) So, enjoy this heartwarming anime. Peace! |

Posts: 7 Score: 3 Rank: 367 | Chobits is one of the best seires that was created by Clamp. It tells a story about a 19 year old virgin named Hideki Motosuwa who grows up on a farm and then moves into the city, Tokoyo. In Tokoyo, personcoms, robots that are shaped as human girls that can do ANYTHING, are on the rage. Hideki desperately wants one, but the cost of one is more than he can handle.
One day. . . .he finds a personcom tied up in the trash. He brings her into his apartment and spends hours and hours trying to find her "on" button. (Note: Hideki doesn't know anything about computers.) Finally he manages to turn her on. As the cloth around her fell off, she smiled at him and said "Chi!"
Later. . .Hideki learned that his personcom, Chi, was different from other personcoms . Chi. . .was a Chobit. . . .a robot that was legendary. A robot that could feel and dream. . .
In these series, its full of laughs and romance, and about finding true happines which comes from all different shapes and sizes. I really love the series, and its better then the way I have just explained the story. |

Posts: 0 Score: 1 Rank: 859 | Chobits ... a show of love, affection, devotion, and ... pervrsion!!!
This show does have its dull moments, but nevertheless the comedy makes up for that, but all of the qualities in this show make it so funny.
Hideki Motosuwa moves to the city. There he percieves a coveted object of his, Persocoms.
Now he know his limitations. He can't afford a persocom of his own, but one night, when he's walking home he spot a girl in the trash. [A girl in the trash sounds weird right?] To his delight, it was a Persocom.
He raises the Persocom to what he could make her only to find out her true dstiny. Her destiny, Chi's destiny, is tied up with another very similar Persocom, a book series that she is compelled to read, and the one for her.
This story has so many good qualities, and it is also very funny.

Posts: 0 Score: 7 Rank: 161 | I picked up Chobits very cheaply, based primarily on word of mouth and the fact it looked pretty. I didn't really have any expectations when I popped it into the DVD player, 'cept that given the pretty animation and the fact it was by Clamp it would be aimed at girls.
Umm, no. The main character is a perv named Hideki, a farm boy who comes to Tokyo after failing to get into college. He's pretty hopeless with girls, technology and finding his way around Tokyo, and has a strange habit of talking to himself. A lot of the humour is based on laughing at Hideki mess up, and it's can be almost painful sometimes; you really feel for the guy.
On his way home he finds a Persocom (cute, human shaped computers) in the rubbish and takes her home. She wakes up and we meet Chi. A host of supporting characters also turn up along the way, all of them having had experiences relating to persocoms that they can reflect on to help out Hideki. All of the characters are stereotyped to begin with (cute schoolgirl, boy genius, clued up best friend, hot teacher) but bring a real humanity to the proceedings as we delve into each of their pasts.
The voice acting (dubbed or original) is superb, with Chi being a standout. I liked the soundtrack too, with a couple of Jpop themes and some understated stuff that enhances the viewing. I defy you to listen to 'Let me be with you' without getting it stuck in your head.
The animation is very good too, with lots of cute girls ^^. It's not totally OTT Clamp style, but you can easily tell the studio developed it.
HOWEVER! Chobits is not perfect. It is a touch slow to get started, and feels rushed at the end. I believe that instead of 3(!!!!) flashback episodes at the end more could have been done to look back into Hideki and Chi's relationship, more time devoted to Zima and Dita and more time looking at Miss Hibiya's back story. Zima and Dita, I felt, particularly lacked a coherent back story. They seemed tacked on. Still, it wraps up nicely, if slightly clichéd.
Overall though it is an exceptional anime that I recommend to most everyone. Just make sure you have a break from episode 23...watching 3 episodes looking back on what you have just seen is not only pointless, it's annoying and is what made the faults stand out to me. 7 outta 10!

Posts: 0 Score: 1 Rank: 757 | Chobits is about a 18 year old guy from the province of Hokkaido, where he spent most of his life tending cows who leaves for Tokyo to study. On his first day in Tokyo he finds a persocon in a dumpsite and takes it home with him. He has no knowledge of computers or persocons, and tries desperately to switch the persocon on and with many tries manages to switch her on. The persocon, was only able to say "chii" and that was what hideki decided to call her. Hideki has to teach Chii everything from speaking, to taking a bath and eventually..LOVE. What hideki doesn't know is that Chii is one of the Legendary persocons called the "Chobits" series that are capable of thinking and making decisions for themselves. Chii has an ability to connect to all the persocons and cause worldwide devastation. Hideki is the only one able to stop it.
In the middle of all this drama are hilarious bits and pieces of 20th century class. With the adorable persocons and people.. why not laugh?! go ahead and watch the series!! |

Posts: 0 Score: 1 Rank: 711 | | Chobits is one of the few animes out there is calm most of the time yet is still very interesting. The story seems dull at first but ecchi comedy really keeps you going. The story involves an 18 year-old Motosuwa Hideki, who goes to tokyo for cram school since he couldn't get into college. Recently person computers called persocoms are spanning tokyo. There can go onto the interent, translate, help you with school, do jobs, and even download porn sites! But Hideki cannot afford one, until he finds Chi, an abandoned persocom. But she could be one of the legendary persocoms a Chobits. This anime is awesome, only 27 episodes and only 8 volumes, but it is very fun to watch, and you won't regret buying it. |

Posts: 54 Score: 6 Rank: 164 | Ok, so poor Hideki grew up on a farm, and now is now living in the gigantic town of Tokyo. That's a big change. Not to mention, he has the worst job any guy could really ask for. Not that they would ask for it. He's a busboy, some one that cleans up after you at a bar or really fansy reastraunt.
Now listen up, there are these things called persocoms, personal computers, and every one Hideki knows has one. But one night walking home from work, he FINDS one!
His hopes are high, until he realizes that the 'com is defective, and all it can say is Chi. Poor old Hideki is sooo bumed until his friend suggests to go to a persocom expert. This expert's name is Minoru, and he's only twelve!
He suggests that Hideki's persocom could be a Chobit, a persocom with the ability to think by itself. An A.I. of sorts.
So, Chobits is about Hideki and his journey for the truth. |
Oh yeah, we so TOTALLY rock!!! Contributions: Reviews: 1 |
