Posts: 0 Score: 7 Rank: 172 | I love this show^^ I got hooked after Fox Kids aired it and bought the whole series. The animation is good, the soundtrack is pretty much without equal (Maaya Sakamoto is a luminary) and the plot is twisty bendy.
It takes the now standard girl from our world gets sucked into another, fantasy world and helps save it line. On the absolutely, most cut down level that is what this anime is.
But dude! It has catgirls and giant robots and mystiscm and swords and dragons and evil empires and... *Ahem* Got carried away there. Overall this is definitely the one the best animes out there, and I'd rate it in my top five. Each character is amazingly realised, with all their faults and feelings and strengths adding such depth...
10 stars. As close to perfect as anything is likely to get.

Posts: 21 Score: 5 Rank: 195 | This is one of the best anime out there. This
particular anime covers a wide range of genres.
There's love, comedy, drama, suspense, horror,
and action. There is definately something going
on between Hitomi and Van. ;) Merle provides
the comic relief in the series. The things she
says (mostly about Hitomi) and the things she
does will provide some laughs. War destroys lands
and homes. Betrayal and faith. These and other
themes make the drama in the series ever so present.
The suspense of what will happen to the characters
is built up so eleganlty that it brings the viewers
to the edge of their seats. The mech battles are
great. Van's mecha is called Escaflowne, which is
one of the most beautiful mechas in anime. It can
turn into a dragon mech! All these elements make
it such a great series to watch.
This anime would have scored a ten if it wasn't so
short. There were only 26 episodes. :( Another sad
part to it was that Hitomi returns home. It would
have been better to see her stay with Van in
Fanelia. Other that, it's one great anime | Contributions: Reviews: 2, Info: 1 |

Posts: 4 Score: 2 Rank: 452 | I have seen a good number of animes and this anime blew me away. So far, it is the best anime I have ever seen.
The plot is absolutely briliant and a lot of unexpected things hapen. While the actioan is awesome and well choreographed, this is not an action anime. This is more of a drama and a very high quality one at that. I found myself loving the briliantly real characters and hoping they would come to a good end. The only gripe I have is that Hitomi is often annoyingly weak and frail, causing a lot of slow moments. The music is what really makes this show good. Without the music, it would not have the same quality and a whole slew of scenes would become tedious. Another Yoko Kanno job well done.
If you have never heard of this anime or are interested in it and aren't a person who relies on pure violence (though this show has a lot of it), I readily suggest this masterpiece. |

Posts: 0 Score: 1 Rank: 546 | After FOX KIDS took Escaflowne off after about 10 episodes I was furious due to the creative storyline of this series. After a few years, I managed to purchase the entire collection and must say it was worth the money.
Escaflowne has a great storyline that'll entice both the female and male viewers. The story takes place mainly on a mystical planet called Gaia that can't be seen from earth for some mystical reason. One night, a connection between Earth and Gaia occurs, perhaps FATE, and a young man named Van, prince/king of Fanelia, appears in front of a young japanese student named Hitomi. With the connection with Earth and Gaia, a dragon from Gaia has followed Van. Van slays the dragon as part of a ritual of his kingdom to become king. Hitomi has a uknown attraction to Van as when the two finally meet under less-chaotic terms, the connection between Earth and Gaia closes and takes Van and Hitomi up in a light beam to Gaia.. Gaia a world of mystical powers and Guymelefs (mechs) in a middle age era. The plot continues to introduce new aspects of Gaia as well as characters, to keep the audience guessing until the end.
Females :: Look forward to the romance between characters in the series.
Males :: Action, lots of it. Awesome fighting scenes. Not to forget to mention some humor mixed in with the romance. As I did find some parts hilarious as the plot played out.
Look for Escaflowne on a few channels, and if you can buy a volume and try it out. Haven't seen the move yet. Enjoy. | Contributions: Reviews: 1 |

Posts: 0 Score: 1 Rank: 531 | I guess with this review I should start with a brief sum up of the series to give other people who are thinking of watching it a taste of what it's about. It starts with I guess you could call the main character Hitomi who is in love with the track captin Amano. When she hears that he is going away she asks him if he would give her her first kiss if she ran 100 meters in 10 seconds. Using the necklace type pendant thing Hitomi always wheres around her neck ( the bases of this whole story) he swings it to count the seconds. Just before Amano counts to ten a blue light blasts out from the sky carying Hitomi up with this strange new boy named Van Fanell, who was fighting a dragon, up with her. she is caried to a strange new world called Gaea just in time to see the distruction of Van's home town Fanellia. What new adventures will Hitomi incounter in this strange new land? You'll just have to check out this anime won't you.
As for my view on this anime I thought it was alright. It really wasn't anything special as far as plot goes however the graphics and music was excellent. The character developement for the most part was intriguing however Hitomi's many fainting spells got quite annoying after awhile. The relationships in this anime are something straight out of a soap opera so if you're into that stuff you'll like this anime.
