That would be my first reaction to this anime series. What's beautiful about this anime is the concept of the plot, the characters, and the gloomy atmosphere. If you're a cute, happy anime watcher, I would'nt suggest Lain to be the anime you'd want to see!
The story begins with 13-year old Lain Iwakura. A week after a classmate of hers, Chisa, commits suicide, Lain and the rest of her classmates recieve an email from the dead girl. Lain normally wasn't into computers ( which is called 'navi's' in the anime) or the wired ( another name for the internet) until the astonishing email read:
"I just abandoned my body...I still live here."
Has the border between the real world and the online world began to blur?
This anime had my eyes glued to the screen from the very first dvd. Beautiful graphics, soft but addictive theme song, the artwork may not be wonderful with liquid eyes and lovely, sexy babes / hot guys. The characters are drawn in a more unique style, but the scenes are intense.
It leaves questions in your mind, it challenges your intelligence, and your philosphy. It even sometimes changes peoples views on the world, life, and how you fit in through all the chaos. To be honest, there is no way to describe what this anime is, you'd have to watch it for yourself.
This anime is science fiction / horror. dark, gloomy atmosphere, characters, and the storyline is even dark.
WARNiNG: this anime contains: masturbation, girl to girl love, violence, graphic suicides, & language. |

Posts: 0 Score: 1 Rank: 526 | -Lain Iwakura is a very shy 8th grader. She lives in a place where two different worlds are combined; there is the normal world and the "Wired" world in the computer. They are somewhat like two different dimensions. People own hi-tech talking computers called Navi's.
Lain's classmate, Chisa, jumps off a building and then sends e-mail to several people, including Lain, to tell them that she is still alive. She has "abandoned her body" and commited herself to the wired world. Several other people die and do this as well.
Lain visits the Wired and becomes addicted to it. She starts to act very strangely, and people realize it.
- Overall, I think Lain (formally Serial Experiments Lain) is a very fascinating show. Many times it is just silent and you have to figure out what's going on. It is rated 16+ and I think that is appropriate. There is some violence, drugs, and a plot that would be confusing to kids under 10. I would rate it 13+, however. I have found that it has some copying of the movie "The Birds" and "City of the Lost Children" I enjoy watching it, and think the endings are very cut off and it always makes you want to watch the next!
