Posts: 0 Score: 1 Rank: 822 | | Maria-sama ga Miteru is a rather interesting series. It's different in that it contains no fanservice, no violence, or anything of the sort. It's merely a well-scripted telling of a group of girls and their lives. The premise sounds dull, I'm aware, but the script-writing is top notch. All of the characters are very human and very believable. The story starts at Lillian, an rather prestigious all-girl high school. The school has a system of seours (the french word for sisters), wherein a second or third year student selects a kohai to watch over, though both for the kohai and sempai, it's an optional decision. This is where Yumi, a timid freshman and our protagonist, comes in. Through a series of events, she becomes the petite seour to Sachiko, a seemingly emotionless girl who little by little shows more and more of herself to Yumi. Yumi also acquaints herself with various other characters, such as Satou Sei, the carefree, messy-haired senior who loves messing with her; Tsutako, a bespectacled photographer with a keen eye and sharp wit, as well as many others. The quality of the art is always high, and though the constant setting of the school may be boring to some, the focus is really on the characters. The show is shoujo ai, so the only people I wouldn't recommend this show to are people who are offended by such things. The music is very elegant and well-suited to the events and charactes, and the voice acting is far above par. If you want to watch a series that's heavy on character development and sweet (and bittersweet) romance, then this is definitely not one to miss. Just as a sidenote that this reviewer has to make, I loved Satou Sei. | Contributions: Reviews: 1 |
