Posts: 11 Score: 23 Rank: 53 | This movie really makes us feel like a kid again (in a good way). MNT (My Neighbor Tortoro) is a movie that really knows how a child acts. The little girl in it, Mei, feels like a real 5-year-old by her actions and the things she says (just like the way the made the baby "Boo" so real in Pixar's wonderful, "Monsters, Inc." a movie that, in some ways, is much like MNT). The animation is clean and crisp and the sceneries are gorgeous. They make you feel like moving into Mei and Satsuki's (the older sister) house! The tortoros (fuzzy creatures) are simply adorable. The kind of neighbor you wished you had! Miyazaki does a wonderful job of creating an anime movie that is appealing for childeren and adults alike. It's DEFINETLY not as dark and violent (there is no darkness or violence in this movie, by the way) as his other masterpiece, Princess Mononoke which is strictly for teens and adults only (too much blood and gore for a small child), but it is still a masterpiece like Princess Mononoke. If you liked this film, I recommend you see Kiki's Delivery service, Spirited Away and (if you are 11 or older and/or can handle intense violence) Princess Mononoke.

Posts: 0 Score: 12 Rank: 112 | This movie is FABULOUS!! Hayao Miyazaki is a genius storyteller! This, along with his other masterpieces (Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away) are MUST-SEES!
My Neighbor Tortoro, tells the story of two young sisters who move to a new house with their father (their mother is in the hospital). Their new house is a small house in a large, gorgeous field and a massive and tall tree. A few days after they moved in, while the older sister is at school, the younger one (who is about 5 or 4 years old) went exploring. On the way, she sees a cute, white, fuzzy bunny-like creature (with no front feet, though) running across the field. She chases after the creature, but then it disappears. Soon, she sees the creature with a slightly bigger creature, who is also bunny-like and fuzzy, only blue with a white belly, a tail, and two arms holding a sack. She chases both of them, and they lead her into a tree. The girl falls into a hole, but lands on something massive, fuzzy, cute, and resembles Snorax from Pokemon (only this creature is much cuter). The creature's name turns out to be Tortoro.
The movie is mainly all about the girls' experience with their friends, the Tortoros, who seem to resemble the kind of imaginary friends we wish we had when we were little. There is much more story, but I don't want to give it all away.
The animation is beautiful and realtistic, and the music is beautifully-done as well. Smaller kids will LOVE this movie, but so will teens and adults. See this movie, and see the other films made by Miyazaki too. They're all fantasic. |
