As is always the case when searching for a new anime to watch a person must ask themselves, "What am I looking for?" Usually this results in some meandering answer like "something good." Martian Successor Nadesico is something good. It is the type of anime that sucks you in and attaches you to multiple caracters at once. It has all the features of a Giant-robot anime with the humor of a comedy. There are love interests and decietful evil bad guys who "get theirs" from the best of the good guys. For the most part it is not deep unless you consider the "Honor" involved in some of the actions, but despite its shallow nature it is a great way to spend 13 hours. The animation is crisp and very much one of the fore-runners of the "new-style" of human animation (if you are unaware of what I mean look at most anime now then watch M.D. Giest or Fist of the North Star). It is unadvisable to rent the first disk of this anime and then quit when things dont go the way you want. Give this anime at least 10 episodes before giving up on it as the plot takes a while to build. So in closing it is a very good anime, not the best by any means but it sort-of epitomizes a lot of anime cliches and that in itself makes it good in an exploitive way.
