Posts: 0 Score: 1 Rank: 843 | | X would have to be the greatest anime of all time (well maby not, but close enough to the top), not only is the sereis and manga by clamp and therefore awsome, it holds many underlying meanings. The basic plot is similar to most animes, tokyo is about to be destroyed thus triggering the appocolypse, and of course it is all centered around tokyo tower. Watching the sereis enough for about the sixth or seventh time, one begins to realise that there are underlying themes, such as the seven deadly sins and the book of revelations in the bible.. (noteactually reading the text would leave one confused) It is recomended that reading the manga will explain alot about the sereis, it is also recomended that watching the movie should not base any opinion about the whole anime cause the movie is not correct in any way shape or form, however the end of the movie is preferable to the end of the series. |

The film of X/1999 is completely undeserving of its bad reputation. Although 18 books of Manga were condensed into this film, X the Movie works well as an action film, with a very flimsy plot. Ignore the fact that characters have a five minute, one line lifespan and love the gorgeous visuals (come on, this IS CLAMP!) and the brooding, homoerotic bishounen that we've all come to know and love! The story follows Kamui who returns to Tokyo following a prophecy from his deceased mother, who we see die early on. No wonder the boy's disturbed! Freaky naked mom pulls sword out of herself while on fire? Poor poor KAMUI! Kamui's name means "Hand of God" and will either join the Dragons of Heaven whose goal is to protect the Earth from the Dragons of Earth whose goal is to eradicate humanity in order to heal the Earth. Which side will Kamui choose? How does his childhood friends Fuuma and Kotori fit do his plan?
Overall, I love this film. Yes, I wish it could have been 20 minutes longer to put more plot in. But oh well! I understood what was going on! So...? The action is almost non stop, and contrary to popular belief, you do get a brief insight into each character, although the focus is more on Kamui. Being CLAMP - everything and everyone is GORGEOUS! Even the sexless, psychopathic Nataku... ^^;;; Or is that just me? Hehe... The film ends differently towards the series, so now I'm intruiged about how the MANGA ends! YAY!

*sigh* *heavy heavy sigh* Okay... I watched this a year after the movie. Am I pleased? Am I disappointed? Yes and no. This series holds back the action and throws in more talking. A lot of talking... SHUT UP SORATA! SHUT UP KAMUI, KOTORI, ALL OF YA! Well, Kotori can keep talking because she's cute!
This series provides us with the character insights that the Movie didn't, although the animation is quite poor considering this is CLAMP! Grrr, CLAMP, get ya pens and get ya paper and give us a FUNKY show!!! :( However, I'm more angry at nataku's lack of screen time! Poor, beloved Nataku! Almost everyone gets an episode to themselves, and, Yuzuriah fans get about 4 episodes dedicated to the ice cream eating, phantom dog training nympho! Man, that girl goes for very OLD men! eugh, little Yuzuriah-chan, BIG BIG BIG Kusunagi-san! RUN YUZURIAH RUN!
What do I love about this show? It shows us that the Dragon of Earth aren't evil murderers like they appeared in the Movie - they're real, they're funny, they're even a little tragic! The episode when Aoki and Yuto have a friendly conversation while KNOWING they are on different sides is very enlightening. The only person you can't feel sorry for is Kanoe. What a BIYATCH! I even felt sorry for Satsuki! The focus is more on the Dragons of Heaven though, because Kamui was directed towards them by his dead mother (thankfully she doesn't die as graphically as the movie - *phew*) The love stories are all excellent as well, if a little bizarre! Suicidal Sorata decides he wants to die for the Ice Maiden Arashi! Little, VERY underage Yuzuriah falls in love with the MATURE Kusanagi-san! And, *sigh sadly* the VERY sweet love between Subaru-kun and Seishirou! But, my favorite, is the love between the tragically disabled Dreamer and I forget his name! :( His love with the spirit Hokuto is sweetest and most tragic of all! *sob*
Why do I dislike this show? Simply, the animation is poor and we're deprived of major action. Fights are few, far between and while not an action glutton, these characters have super cool powers that they NEVER use! However, if you like "talky" shows with incredible characters and awesome skills, then by all means go for this one!
Overall, this is an awesome apocalypse saga with involving characters and a stunning plot, complete with unpredictable ending. While completely different from the movie, the series is still a gem! Watch this show! | |
